SECTION 1:  NAME

1.1  
The name of this organization shall be TEAM42.

1.2  
When appropriate TEAM42 may be abbreviated as T42 or written out long hand for formal correspondence as Team Forty Two.

The official logo of TEAM42 shall be the one that Jim designed that is featured on the webpage.


SECTION 2:  MEMBERSHIP

2.1
The founding members of TEAM42 are David Wherry, Cory Schultz, Zach Fenhaus, Jim Lindstrom, and Chad Vliem.  Their seniority date shall be recognized as the founding date, 8/1/2000.

2.2
Active members of TEAM42 will be recognized with their picture and a bio on the TEAM42 website.

2.3
In order to retain membership in TEAM42, members must attend a minimum of two, two night backpacking backcountry trips in a calendar year (January-December).  If there is question as to the validity of the backpacking expeditions, a conference will be held by "the ELDERS" to determine if the expedition is eligible.  Should one of "the ELDERS" be the person who's expedition is in question, they will be exempt from the decision.

If a member of TEAM42 fails to meet the minimum expedition requirement, he or she will become an inactive member of TEAM42.  Their bio will be removed from the member section of the TEAM42 website and will be placed in the inactive section.

2.5
Inactive members will regain active membership as soon as they have completed two backcountry backpacking trips, at which time their membership will be restored in full and their seniority will continue from the time they joined TEAM42.

2.6
If the inactive member does not attend the minimum required number of expeditions during the calendar year in which they are inactive, they will cease to be members of TEAM42.  Should they rejoin TEAM42, their seniority date will become the date they newly joined, and they will receive no elevated benefits over other new members unless they were previously one of "the ELDERS" and there is a vacant spot among "the ELDERS".

Non-members may be nominated for membership in TEAM42 once they have completed two two night backcountry backpacking trips in a calendar year.  A Member of TEAM42 may then nominate individuals that meet the required annual expedition requirement for membership in TEAM42.  Membership voting may be conducted online or in person, however all members receive a vote in membership matters regardless of attendance to a meeting.  In order for the new member to be accepted into TEAM42, they must receive a majority of votes from all TEAM42 members as well as a majority of votes from "the ELDERS".

2.8
If a proposed member fails to be elected as a TEAM42 member, he or she is not eligible for further consideration until the following year.  The candidate would then have to repeat the yearly expedition requirement before being nominated again.


SECTION 3:  MEMBER RIGHTS

3.1
All TEAM42 members shall have all the rights and privileges that come with TEAM42 membership, including, but not limited to:
  • Posting on the TEAM42 Blog.
  • Making motions and voting on TEAM42 affairs.
  • Proposing meetings.
  • Proposing expeditions.
  • Attending all expeditions.
  • Others?

3.2
Inactive members will forefit all of their rights as a TEAM42 member.

3.3
Inactive members and nonmembers may participate on TEAM42 expeditions as long as a majority of TEAM42 members attending the expedition approve.


SECTION 4:  VOTING

4.1
TEAM42 shall use Robert's Rules of Order when conducting official business.  The Chairmanship man be rotated to various members as needed.  The Chairman will only receive a vote in the matter of a tie.

4.2
In order to conduct official business, a majority of TEAM42 members as well as a majority of "the ELDERS" must be present.  All TEAM42 members are to be notified in advance of meeting time and location.  Reasonable accommodations will be made to ensure all members have an opportunity to attend.

4.3
All official business may be discussed and voted on at the meeting with the participants.  The only exception is membership, in which case all TEAM42 members get a vote, regardless of participation in the meeting.

4.4
As long as at least 50% of TEAM42 members and 50% of "the ELDERS" attend an expedition, the expedition will be an "implied meeting" and official business may be discussed and voted on.


SECTION 5:  FOOD

5.1
The official food of TEAM42 shall be the pickle.


SECTION 6:  RECOGNITIONS

6.1
Feats of greatness will be recognized and displayed on the TEAM42 website at the discretion of the webmaster.


SECTION 7: TEAM42 Member of the Year

7.1
Each TEAM42 member will submit a ballet for TEAM42 Member of the Year by the 31st of January in the following year.

7.2
The voter will put the names of two active TEAM42 members on a typed ballet.

7.3
The ballot will be placed in a blank sealed security envelope.

7.4
That envelope will be placed in an envelope addressed to Mary Wherry.

7.5
Mary will check off who the ballets are from according to the return address.

7.6
Mary will discard the envelope with the return address, without letting Joe see it.

7.7
Mary will give the blank security envelope, unopened, to Joe Wherry.

7.8
Joe will tally the votes.  The top two vote getters will become the finalists.

7.9
If there is a tie, a one week runoff will be held.

7.10
Joe will e-mail the candidates for the runoff to the members of TEAM42.

7.11
If one person has a majority and there is a tie for second place, the person in the lead will become a finalist and there will be a runoff vote for the second finalist.

7.12
If two people are tied for first, they will become the finalist, and there is no need for a runoff.

7.13
If there is any other type of tie, a runoff will be held and the top two vote getters will become the finalists.

7.14
The run off vote will be conducted in the same manner as the initial vote, except that all TEAM42 members will get only one vote and the votes are due February 6th.

7.15
Once the finalists are determined, Joe will e-mail the group with the names of the two finalists.

7.16
The voting procedure will be the same as before, only each TEAM42 member will vote for only one of the finalists.

7.17
The due date for the final vote will be February 15th.

7.18
Joe will write the results on a piece of paper and will sign the paper.

7.19
Joe will place the results into a sealed security envelope.

7.20
Joe will sign the seal of the security envelope.

7.21
Joe will give the results to at least two members of TEAM42.

7.22
The envelope will be opened on the last night of the annual winter trip.

7.23
The winner will receive the traveling bandanna.  The previous year's winner will be responsible for embroidering the name of the TEAM42 member of the year on the bandanna.

7.24
Chad will be responsible for embroidering the name on the bandanna for the 1st recipient.
